In yet another blow to smartphones that run the Windows Phone 7 (WP7) operating system, smartphone manufacturers are giving WP7 the thumbs down saying that Android phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S are superior.
The problem seems to be not just that the WP7 operating system is flawed, but because Microsoft is not responding to calls to fix the, now well known, bugs. There are also pricing problems; Microsoft’s WP7 is seem by the industry to be very expensive when compared to Android.
Amongst users WP7 phones have been experiencing a very low demand when compared to the iPhone 4 and Android powered phones, and this is also influencing the decision of phone manufacturers who obviously need to cater to the requirements of their customers.
Apart from the Nokia N8, other Symbian powered phones are also seeing a downturn in demand. In February 2011 Nokia and Microsoft made a major announcement that they would collaborate on the development of a new operating system based on a hybrid of Windows 7 and Symbian. Phones using this new OS would begin to appear during 2012.
Interestingly, Google has made a statement to the effect that Nokia is making a mistake in partnering Microsoft and has put an alternative proposal on the table offering to provide Android to Nokia should they so wish.
Despite the fact that Symbian is finding less favour amongst users, the fact remains that it powers more smartphones than any other operating system. Until the beginning of this year it was shipped on almost a third of all new smartphones, though that has now been overtaken by Android.
The whole smartphone market is changing. Nowadays very few people are satisfied with a standard mobile phone and the majority of users have traded up or are trading up to fully fledged smartphones. The trend was originally set by the iPhone, but the introduction of alternatives has rapidly accelerated the pace.
Blackberry phones should not be discounted as the new consumer models such as the Blackberry Torch are finding favour, particularly amongst high end smartphone users. For all the latest pay as you go and contract phones head over to dialaphone today where you are sure to fnd the right phone for you

The possibility of a “tablet war” in 2011 seems to be rapidly becoming a likely occurrence. With many developers suffering information leaks and many blog and tech sites circulating rumours it seems that most of the new tablets to be released within the first half of the year will be serious contenders against the pioneering Apple iPad and forthcoming Apple iPad2.
The Blackberry Playbook is one such contender for the top spot of the high-end market with a possible release date in the second quarter of 2011, but how will this tablet endeavour to influence the minds of consumers away from the reputable Apple systems?
The first rumour to have leaked suggests this tablet might be a more suitable purchase is indeed the price. Some sources have stated that it could cost less than $500 at its launch in the US. If this figure is considerably less than $500 then the Playbook will already have attained a market advantage against its main rival. This price however is an estimate for the tablet without a contract and only 8GB of memory. For expansion of this memory consumers could end up forking out an extra $100!
The battery life is another aspect that Blackberry have focused on to improve their chances of sales. Rumoured to have a considerably extended life, the battery of the Playbook may last longer than that of many of the tablet rivals set for release in 2011.
This could be a whole new chapter for the company as it allows for a platform on which they can finally move away from their traditional “business use” phones. Internet sources do state that this is possibly the sole prerogative of the Playbook and business and personal users alike should find that the device does cater for the needs of both.
